Maya Angelou Elementary opened in the fall of 1995 as a Saturn Project School with an emphasis in writing. It is named after renowned African-American author, Dr. Maya Angelou, who attended the school's dedication ceremony on December 15, 1995.
Maya Angelou Elementary is a controlled-choice Pre-Kindergarten to Fifth Grade public school in Miami-Dade County. At Maya Angelou Elementary, we offer an Extended Foreign Language program, provide tutoring for students and offer extra curricular activities such as: Art Club, Broadcasting, Drama, Future Educators of America, Journalism and Violins.
Maya Angelou Elementary has a mandatory uniform policy. 
For Everyone: green, white,yellow or navy blue polo
For Boys: navy blue, green or khaki pants or shorts
For Girls: navy blue, green, khak or plaid (green, navy blue and white) skirt,culotte, skort or shorts

Dismissal
2:00 pm- Pre-K, Kindergarten & 1st Grade
3:00 pm- 2nd - 5th Grades
* All students dismissed at 2:00 pm
on Wednesdays
